Supporting the art and science of western horticulture

Pacific Horticulture Society | Pacific Nurseries
At Pacific Nurseries, we value giving back and supporting the community of Bay Area Landscape Professionals that we work with and serve every day.

We demonstrate this by providing resources and support to organizations that focus their attention on issues that are important to our community—including the Pacific Horticulture Society. Our support for them and others helps us sustain our quality of life here in the Bay Area.

West coast roots that run deep

The Pacific Horticulture Society | PHS, and it’s affiliated chapters, meet our support profile perfectly.

For over 30 years, PHS has been inspiring gardeners from British Columbia to Southern California in the art and science of horticulture. PHS provides gardeners with insights, understanding, and timely, in-depth information about plants, design, and landscape environments.

They cover the art and science of West Coast gardening and horticulture by providing a number of opportunities to increase horticultural knowledge through online and print publications, events and expert-led tours. PHS also strives to foster enthusiasm and interest in what bonds gardeners together and inspires them to succeed.

A child of the ’60s starts something big

Pacific Horticulture began in 1968 when three San Francisco Bay Area gardening societies came together to publish a common journal. Later joined by groups in the Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles, and San Diego, PHS became one of the most widely respected, member-supported organizations of its kind.

Six sponsoring societies comprise the chapters of PHS which cover the entire Pacific coast. And their quarterly publication, Pacific Horticulture, has been widely recognized as the “go to” journal for in-depth information about plants and how to grow them successful in western environments.
PHS Member Benefits
PHS members receive an award-winning quarterly journal, electronic newsletters, discounted educational programs and events.

On a mission to support healthy landscapes + community

Don Baldocchi, President of Pacific Nurseries, has served as a PHS board member for over 4 years. In his role, Don provides oversight and guidance on how PHS can extend awareness of their educational and learning resources that inform members of the activities and unique programs that they offer.

Don’s training in and practice of Holistic Resource Management at his family ranch and at Pacific Nurseries, as well as his graduate degree in Environmental Horticulture from UC Davis, provides him with the experience and background to guide PHS’s direction and growth with the other board members.
