Santolina chamaecyparissus is a low, dense, long-lived evergreen shrub. It features hairy, gray aromatic pinnately-lobed narrow 1″ long leaves with dense, tiny leaflets. Solitary yellow button flowers bloom on 6″ tall stalks during the late spring and summer. It performs best in full sun with some shade and little water. This is an excellent plant for Bay Area coastal locations and rocky slopes.
