Libertia peregrinans is a rhizomatous perennial with stiffly upright sword-shaped foliage that grows to 2′ tall. This hardy plant is quite beautiful when backlit with low-angle sun. The distinctive leaves have green centers with bright orange along the leaf margins. Lightly fragrant and very elegant, pure white blooms appear in the spring on branched stems that are slightly shorter than the leaves. It slowly spreads by forming new colonies by rhizomes. As one of our favorite plants, it prefers full sun or light shade with moderate water. This fantastic plant is pervasive throughout New Zealand and does very well in our Bay Area climates.
