avandula stoechas ‘Otto Quast’ is a short-lived, herbaceous perennial plant with distinctive silver foilage that creates a dramatic display in Bay Area landscapes. The thin silver leaves are covered in fine hairs and they contain fragrant oils. It features deep violet flowers which yield abundant nectar for pollinators. It grows in a bushy habit and can reach to 2′ tall. Overtime can get woody and looks best with some pruning after bloom. Both buds and greens are used in teas and as well as ingredients of high-quality honey. This handsome plant performs best in dry, well-drained soil in full sun. It needs little or no fertilizer and good air circulation.
