Hydrangea macrophylla is a handsome perennial shrub loved by garden enthusiasts everywhere. This showy plant features long-lasting, sumptuous pink-red mophead blooms that are stunning attractions in a Bay Area landscape. The large flowers age with a green tint and continue to attract visual attention against the large, saw-tooth-edged foliage. Hydrangea is perfect for massing in the landscape or for use as a feature in containers. It prefers well-drained, moist soil and regular water. Deadheading spent blooms enhances appearance and can promote new flower growth.

“I use large-scale plants like Hydrangea macrophylla as select key elements to immediately give a better appearance to the landscape. When a larger grouping of shrubs or specimen tree or goes in on day one, the garden won’t look flat as it grows into itself over time.”
