Hedychium coronarium features smooth green leaves that grow along 3-6′ tall stems that rise from stout rhyzomes. The large leaves measure can be 2-5″ wide and are softly hairy on the undersides. Fragrant white flowers bloom during the summer and fall. This tropical-like plant performs best in full sun along the coast to light shade inland. It also likes regular watering.
