Fargesia rufa is a clump-forming bamboo with an elegant and distinctive form. It features short, slender, glossy green canes with red sheaths. Leaves are only about 4″ long and shiny, blue-green on the top and dull, grey-green underneath. The leaves dance in just about any breeze and attract attention in a Bay Area landscape. This hardy, easy-to-grow bamboo is not invasive and can be a great choice for a low, privacy screen or hedge.
