Agave attenuata is a beautiful soft green color agave that features wide, pale-green pliable leaves that emerge from a tight central spear. As they grow, they arch gracefully back and the result is similar to a large open green flower. These forms mass together to a 4-5′ height with a similar spread. When the plant is mature, it sends a 5-10′ flower stalk that rises and arcs downward before rising again. Flowers are a pale greenish-yellow and are followed by seed pods and many new bulbils. This handsome succulent performs best in coastal sun or light shade. It can tolerate summer-dry conditions but looks best with occasional water. This is an excellent candidate to combine with other succulents and tropical plants in a Bay Area landscape. Slugs and snails can be attracted to this plant.
