Shrub + Tree
Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ is a large, bushy deciduous shrub + tree that features deep red-purple leaves with 5-7 slender-pointed lobes. It is sought after for its delicate foliage and dramatic change of color throughout the growing season. As an easy-to-care-for and elegant tree originating from Japan, this Acer is an excellent choice to consider for borders and along ornamental paths because the root system is compact and not invasive. It prefers consistent and regular water. Once established, it is less prone to damage from drought. It does well with the addition of mulch away from the trunk and beyond the drip line of the foliage. Moderate to well-drained soil is best and avoiding poorly drained soil is a good idea.
