Fagus sylvatica ‘Riversii’ is an excellent specimen tree for use in large Bay Area landscapes where its form and color make it a natural stand out. Prized for richly colored foliage that retains its dark purple color throughout the summer months, it is a slow grower that does not do well in hot, dry inland areas. It can tolerate a wide range of soil types that are well-drained. It prefers regular water until it is established with deep roots. Because it has a strong natural form, it seldom needs pruning and is an easy-care tree.
