Blechnum spicant is a very popular garden fern that likes damp, shaded forest areas. It features flat, wavy-margined leaflets and gracefully arching, upright fertile leaves. Dark-green fronds appear on the same plant with low and spreading, sterile fronds and stiff, upright fertile fronds. As a great deer-resistant choice, it can be used in shade where rich, well-decomposed organic components are pervasive in the soil.
