Dendromecon harfordii is a stunningly beautiful, very fast-growing, flowering shrub or small tree in the poppy family. This CA native features thin, branching stems covered sparsely in smooth-edged, oval-shaped silvery 1-3″ leaves. Throughout most of the year, it’s covered in showy, bright yellow flowers. It also bears cylindrical, curved fruit about 3″ long. This eye-catching plant can grow to 6′ in two years. It prefers full sun and well-draining soil but will perform in dry, part-shade. As a summer-dry tolerant CA native, it is a good choice for both gentle slopes and flat areas in the landscape.
