Ceanothus: A great low growing ground cover

Ceanothus hearstiorum for fire-resistant landscape | Pacific Nurseries
If you’re looking for a native, drought-tolerant ground cover, that grows to about 6 inches tall, Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens ‘Louis Edmunds’ is just the ticket.

This beauty has a long name but it’s short in height for a Ceanothus. It has a beautiful light blue flower, dark green foliage, and a habit for spreading.

How to stay off the deer foraging radar.

As many Bay Area landscape professionals and property owners know, managing foraging deer can be a real challenge. Fortunately, this Ceanothus variety is not a favorite of deer. Because it’s low to the ground with tougher leaves, they typically avoid it and look for more tasty plants.

It’s important to not confuse this low growing ‘Louis Edmunds’ with the taller growing Ceanothus griseus ‘Louis Edmunds’, which is a 3-6′ tall shrub variety in the Ceanothus genus. So if your installation or landscape design calls for a great spreading ground cover that is amazing when it blooms, just ask one of the friendly staff at Pacific Nurseries to show you the Ceanthus ‘Louis Edmunds’ in the ground cover form.

We usually have many of these on hand.
